Hello Kitty party holders were asked the following question: "If you could have any Hello Kitty party supplies you wanted for your Hello Kitty party, what would your number one choice be?" Make Your Own Hello Kitty Cake

Making your own Hello Kitty cake can be a fun and joyful thing to do, as well as saving you some money. And it's not as hard as it may sound. Just follow these simple instructions:

1. Start by sketching some Hello Kitty designs for a cake and familiarizing yourself with the details that will go on your Hello Kitty cake. Make sure you plan to use Hello Kitty colors, which generally means a white kitty wearing pastels colors and either a pink or red bow. Hello Kitty whiskers and eyes are black. And Hello Kitty does not have a mouth. 

Alternatively, you can make a Hello Kitty design on a computer or find a photo or image you really like, magnify it to a realistic size and print it out to use as a pattern to follow for your cake.

2. You will need to bake enough cake in the proper sizes and piece them together or, more simply, bake one large sheet cake and then cut the cake into a Hello Kitty shape.

You can use any flavor of cake you like. Pick your favorite recipe and proceed. I personally like pink, white or chocolate cake with white fondant, but any combination will do.

3. Next, place a single sheet of fondant over the whole cake to give the cake  a smooth surface--and give Hello Kitty her white fur. Make sure there aren't any air bubbles in the fondant and that it's completely smoothed down. Then cut off the excess. You can make your own fondant by following a recipe or even purchase ready-made rolled fondant online (my favorite since it can be a bit tricky).

4. You can also use fondant to decorate your Hello Kitty cake with Hello Kitty details. The cake above shows fondant used for the facial features, dress and bow, as well as the cupcake she's holding.

If you don't want to attempt to make your own Hello Kitty cake, there are other options for you to consider.

If the Hello Kitty cake seems too difficult or you don't have experience making sheet cakes, another option is to make Hello Kitty cupcakes--or to purchase your Hello Kitty cake or cupcakes instead.

Visit or call your local bakery and ask them if they have made Hello Kitty cakes and if they would be willing to make one for you. Ask how much time it will take and how much it will cost. They will need to know what size cake you would like, in other words, how many people it will serve. Also, let them know if this is a Hello Kitty birthday cake or if it's another type of cake and what you'd like written on the cake, if anything. Be sure the lead time works with your party schedule and the cost is within your budget before telling them to go ahead. If buying a cake online or from a local bakery is too expensive, you can always make the Hello Kitty cake yourself.
